Cupcakes!

Cute pink cupcake being held out by impossibly gorgeous manicured handIt’s National Cupcake Day, so what’s your favorite flavor?

Confession time: I’m not a huge fan of cupcakes. I KNOW. It’s very sad. But I find them incredibly awkward to eat. They often have a huge mountain of frosting because it “looks pretty” and even the cake part is usually just a little too tall to take a bite of.

I always end up wanting to eat my cupcake with a fork, which people think is weird, so I prefer cake. Cake comes on a plate with a fork. Cake has a normal amount of frosting and I can eat the cake (my favorite part) out from under it if it’s too much. A nice buttercream frosting I don’t mind, but that gritty straight-up sugar frosting usually ends up scraped off on whatever surface I can find.

Ideally I’ll have cupcakes at an occasion with children, which means I can let them eat the frosting off and then I’ll eat the cake part they don’t want. (Unfortunately you can only do this so many times before their parents get really annoyed with you.)

I love the idea of cupcakes, but I’ve never successfully eaten one without looking like a toddler who skipped a nap and got jacked up on sugar instead. But right now, with all the photos and talk of cupcakes going around, I could really go for a chocolate one with coffee-flavored frosting and jimmies on top.

You sum up my opinion of cupcakes quite well. I would only add that cake allows for the best cake-to-icing ratio. Oh, and with cupcakes, I hate getting icing on (or IN) my nose while trying to eat it without a fork.

I break off the bottom part of the cupcake and put it on the top to make a “frosting sandwich”. It is easier to est.

Ohhh, I like Sherry’s suggestion. Much more fun that using a fork as I usually do. Now I have to go out and buy a cupcake to try this. :-P

I only like unfrosted cupcakes. So I scrape the frosting off. And I will eat a cupcake with a fork if it is too tall. If that makes me look silly, oh well. Why can’t cupcakes be like muffins where it is acceptable to break off a piece with your fingers?

When I make cupcakes at home (which isn’t very often) I like to use ice cream cones instead of those paper liners. Much easier to eat that way.

I thought I was the only one around who prefers the cake part to the mountains of icing–and yeah, fork for me too, please.

    Happy holidays, Ms Stacey!
