My first blog post was on January 1, 2005, when the Tall Kid was nine and a half and the Short Kid had just turned four at the end of November. I wanted to a grab a picture from the blog archives but, somewhere during the evolution of blog technology, things changed and the early pictures are all broken boxes. But here’s what my boys looked like when long-time blog readers met them:
Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, this happened last weekend:
I love this picture. The five and a half year age difference has often been a big gap between them but, as the Short Kid transitions toward teenager-hood (*sobs*), they’ve started growing closer as brothers and appreciating each other’s company. I hope they enjoy this summer before everything changes and my greatest wish is that, as men, they find the kind of friendship with each other that my husband and I have with our siblings.

I love both those pics. My brother and I are six years apart. There may be a time when they grow apart while TK is in college, but once they’re adults, there’s an excellent chance they’ll be great friends. xox

I do have hope. My husband’s oldest brother graduated the year he started kindergarten, but as adults they were very close friends. And they’re both very close to the teen sis, so she’ll keep them together, LOL.

You have some very handsome boys, Shannon! Even though I have only followed you for the past year or two online it seems you have such a love for your boys and your example of love for your family will be what they in turn do to others. Congrats on raising such awesome boys!

Meant to add, my brothers are 8 years apart and have become good friends as adults.

Love the pictures! Time flies by so fast. I’m sure your boys will keep their bond and only grow closer as they get older and have more in common. I am the baby in the family and me and my sisters did not get along so well growing up but we’re close now.
Congratulations TK
