Cheating the jar

I lost 3.8 pounds this week, but I’m totally cheating. Or rather, my gallbadder’s cheating by coughing up gallstones that cause so much excruciating pain one becomes literally terrified to put food in one’s mouth. Monday I have an appointment to discuss surgery, so by the time this thing’s wrapped up and recovery’s over, I’ll probably have cheated my way into some nice weight loss. The key will be not bouncing back too much when I feel better.

So, to date—32 pounds lost, with 23 left to lose, so my jars look like this now:

How are you all doing? And did anybody try the Special K Cracker Chips? SOOOO yummy!

OUCH! I had my gallbladder removed 7 weeks after my oldest was born. It was a rough 6 months! I hemorrhaged after his birth, was on 2 weeks bed rest, had a massive gall bladder attack when he was 9 days old (ended up in the ER), he took 2 weeks to learn to nurse, had my gall bladder removed and then had an allergic reaction to the penicillin they gave me for a breast infection–all in 6 months!! I look back at that time and wonder how in the world I had the strength. I get tired just typing all of that!

All that to say, I hope your surgery goes well and you recovery quickly!

I gained .8 this week, so I call that staying the same ;) I seem to be in a pattern of lose one week, stay the same, lose one week, stay the same, etc.

So sorry about the gallstones. Very painful. I had them and had to have the surgery. Hey, it’s better than dealing with the pain. Wishing you a speedy recovery. My jars are holding steady at 12 but they are holding.

Hi Shannon! I love the jars. Great way to ‘see’ how much you’ve accomplished. And I wouldn’t consider your weight loss this week a “cheat”…
Oh, you may remember me from the eHarlequin forums from several years ago.

Well, that’s an awful way to do it. Think of it not as cheating, but more the silver lining of a very dark cloud.

Best of luck with the surgery. And I have the Special K cracker chips on my list of things to get next time I am at the store.

Liz, the jars are awesome! Having that visual reinforcement has saved me several times. When I’m depressed I gained, I can look at all the stones in the LOST jar and know I’m still on the right track.

I guess by cheating, I mean pounds lot in a way that can’t be sustained. But I’ll take them any way I can get them. :D

I’m so impressed with your jars! I have been following your weight loss posts all along, and you have really inspired me. I finally started doing something about my own health and weight in March. I think I need to make a jar of my own. Thank you for sharing your story and giving me a little push.

I’m sorry for your gall bladder pain! My mom had to have hers out and she said the pain before surgery was worse than childbirth. She couldn’t believe how good she felt after the surgery was over. I hope you get the same relief soon!

I posted a couple of weeks ago that I needed to get back on the horse, get my head in the game, butt in gear and whatever platitude I could come up with. And then I did nothing!

Started back on today. So far, so good. I planned, I packed my lunch and I’ve managed to stay on track for 9 whole hours..lol.

I love the jar idea. I think I may just have to do that. Did you buy them or make them?

Sorry about the gallbladder. Hope you are starting to feel better. I don’t think it’s cheating. It is, what it is. It’s not like you had your arm amputated just to lose an extra 5 – 10 pounds (I’ve actually considered this..lol).

Carin, I’m so glad I inspired you! It’s a long haul, but I truly believe the difference for me this time has been having all you guys fighting the same battle. It’s easier when you’re not alone.

Tina, 9 hours is a start! You can do it! And I made the jars myself, based on ones I’d seen on Pinterest. There were a lot of really gorgeous ones there, with hand painted words and such, but I’m not super crafty. I bought a couple of glass jars and the glass stones from the fake flower aisle at Walmart and a package of alphabet stickers from the sticker aisle.

And I heard a rumor Jane Fonda had her lower ribs removed to make her waist look tinier. I guess the gallbladder’s less cheating than that, LOL.
