Traveling, tests and nerves

Yesterday I registered for the RWA National conference, which is in Anaheim in July. The whole family’s going, so it’ll be part work and part epic family vacation.

With airports. We’re not really thinking about that part yet. Yes, I did try to convince my husband that driving would be awesome because we could pick one super-cool thing to stop and see on the way out and one for the way back. Sadly, that stretches one week into three weeks and he seems to think that’s crazy. I would totally do it to avoid having to navigate an airport.

Back in December, the Short Kid won the school geography bee. Again. Which means taking the qualification test to see if he goes to the state competition. Again. He took that test yesterday, so now I deal with his nerves while we wait for the results. Again..

This time around, though, the stakes are even higher. His teacher (who I think is pretty awesome) told SK that, if he makes it to the state round, he can sit at the teacher’s desk, in the teacher’s comfy chair, for an entire week.

Between the contemplation of airports and the possibility of sitting in the teacher’s chair, nerves are jumping at Casa Stacey!

That’s great news for SK. Hope he did well on the test again. I am wondering where the teacher will sit though.

Having driven across country multiple times, I would much rather fly. It’s a very long trip between New York and California.

Did you check train schedules? I love trains! It seems like a much better way to travel cross country but yeah, it takes time too.

Excellent news about the Geography Bee! Congrats. My company publishes a leading online Social Studies resource with a strong geography bend, called Maps101. I wonder if his school subscribes? Anyway, keep us posted on the results of that test…now you’ve got me excited too.
