CSI rant…ishness

(This was supposed to go up tomorrow, but I hit the wrong button and Reader jumped on sending it out.)

I don’t this is spoilerific, but it might not make a lot of sense if you haven’t seen last night’s tonight’s episode.

So Ray (Laurence Fishburne) joined the cast of CSI after Grissom left. He was a professor one day and seemingly the next he was not only a CSI, but an equal. Sometimes it seemed he even had more juice than Nick.

Now we have Ted Danson. Unlike Fishburne, I think Danson might be a good fit for the show.

But WHY is he the supervisor?

I’m not a big fan of Catherine, but she’s been in charge. Why isn’t she now? The personnel/totem pole questions are driving me mad!

(Edited to add: Of course they answered the Catherine question in the last three minutes of the show. If they’d worked it into the beginning, I wouldn’t have been annoyed for the entire show and either this post wouldn’t have existed or, if I hadn’t prematurely published it, would have been deleted in draft form. I still think they’re not very consistent, though.)

I didn’t watch most of the episodes with Laurence Fishburne as I found his character rarther dull. I hadn’t seen most of the last year befor Grissom left, but did tune in for his final episode as well as the episode when Sara came back and the one where Grissom appeared on Skype.

I was confused during most of the premiere episode too. Was the blonde on the show before? I saw she was in the opening credits but had no clue who she was.

Danson might be a good fit. His character was certainly quirky. I also wondered why Catherine was so angry with Nick. I guess they are paving the way for when she leaves the show maybe?

The young blonde? She’s Conrad’s daughter, I think. We first met her when the team went to LA (I think) and it looked like they were doing yet another spin-off. But that didn’t happen so I think they’re maybe bringing her in.

And my husband would be thrilled if Catherine left the show.

    Thanks for the explanation.

I read Catherine is leaving at the end of this season. She was going to leave after last season when her contract was up. but agreed to stay one extra year.

I really liked Marg Helgenberger when she was on China Beach, but never warmed up to her character on CSI. Grissom was always my favorite.

im still a little confused as to why langston left. the blonde is in fact Ecklie’s daughter and i guess she is joining the vegas crime lab. it was mentioned that Langston “screwed up” and im wondering if that was reffering to him killing Haskel? as to why catherine was demoted, im not sure. They were arguing about something Nick did in LA.

Langston basically murdered Haskell. And, while a jury wouldn’t have convicted him, he couldn’t really work in law enforcement after that. They just let him go away quietly, I think.

But in LA, when Langston went rogue, Nick snuck off and helped him, if I remember correctly. And they were both under Catherine’s command so, even if she didn’t do it, her ranks were in chaos.

It was a pretty messed up storyline and I’m hoping they’ll just settle in now and get back to crime-of-the-week solving.
