We have a lurker in the upstairs hallway. Not only are my 16 and 10.5-year old sons not doing well in the same room this summer, but they prefer not to be on the same floor of the house. The Tall Kid, being the quiet, leave-me-alone sort, spends a good part of his day upstairs.
Due to the weird construction of this old house (which started life as a carriage barn), we have central AC downstairs but not upstairs. And TK’s room gets sun all day, so I imagine it gets pretty warm in there. (It’s left to my imagination because you couldn’t pay me to go in there.) So he stretches out at the top of the stairs with his iPod Touch and happily reads Wikipedia pages while soaking in what little cool air makes it up there.
(It also allows him to monitor all conversations taking place on the ground floor.)
They go back to school on the 29th, which I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand, I love not having the school craziness and I think this summer went by too fast (and we did less because of the higher than normal temps), but on the other…I need my routine back.
I’ve seen moms around the community already packing their kids off to school. In two weeks plus a weekend, that’ll be me!

I get so jealous of everyone’s kids going back to school this time of year. And then September rolls around and I don’t have to be up at 5am to get them off to school and the envy goes away…for the most part. I have 5 kids and can only imagine how it’ll be when they start refusing to share the same spaces.

It’s coming right up. I’m already wondering how I’ll manage juggling the baby and trying to get older kids out the door. : O On the other hand, nap time will be ALL writing with the house empty.
