Poor Jack Bauer–with major 24 spoilers

There are spoilers for last night’s episode of 24 in this post.

I mean it.

Serious spoilers.

Not just vague spoilers, but flat-out who’s dead and who’s not. You’ve been warned.

So I’m royally pissed off at the 24 writers. Let me say I didn’t like Rene Walker AT ALL in the beginning of this season. I wasn’t a huge fan of hers last season, but this season I thought they really screwed her up. Last season she got all squirmy and uncomfortable at the thought of Jack backhanding a suspect. She entered this season by putting a guy’s hand in a vice and hacking off his thumb. The characterization was off, as though they made a new character with Rene’s name and face.

But the episode before last, when she and Jack were storming the building to save Omar, I started seeing her and Jack together. This was a woman he could love and who would “get” him, so the happily ever after warm and fuzzies started settling in. I imagined them surviving one last climactic run through hell together and then the series would end with Jack and Rene sitting in a porch swing, watching his granddaughter play.

The bastards killed her.

W.
T.
F.

Seriously? The guy’s been saving the world for eight years and you couldn’t cut him a break?

Let’s recap…

Cole’s in love. Oh noes! She’s a terrorist. (And let’s give a round of applause to CTU’s background checks. Almost as effective as their perimiters.)

There’s a bomb. Does CTU get the bomb? No, the terrorists chose not to detonate it.

Do they get the bomb back? No, Omar trades himself for it.

Do they save Omar? No, he dies.

So, hey, let’s kill off Rene and totally emotionally decimate Jack!

Six more episodes to go and they’ve left us with nothing to care about–nothing to root for. Poor Jack.

Yeah I could see this WTF of a season coming a hundred miles away. So glad I gave up after a few episodes in. They could establish enough perimeters to keep me in. Heh.

Killed Rene huh? Killed Omar too? I really liked his hair.

    Poor Jack.

Nice to see CTU’s background checks are stellar as usual.

I don’t see how either of you could give up on it, no matter how bad it’s gotten. It’s Jack Bauer!

And, Steve, no drama? I need a spreadsheet to keep track of the drama up there.
