I’ve been benched

I guess I’ll be taking the weekend off. Though I didn’t do a damn thing to it, I have some kind of agonizing pain in the outside of my right wrist and lower hand. It started last night and just keeps getting worse.

I can’t hold a pen. The Schwans guy came & writing a check almost made me thow up. I can’t type. (Drafting this with my left thumb on the iPod.) Had to go to the post office and mail a contract. With an attention line. And a long-ass Canadian address. I was in tears by the time I was done painstakingly forming hideously mangled block letters. I’m sure the recipient will be horrified by my handwriting.

What’s weird is that it’s not only a pull. If I touch it, the pain is excruciating.

Well then, stop touching it!

Wiseasses.

I have a brace on it now, but the contact pain is so bad I can’t tell if it’s helping. Might switch to an Ace bandage.

I might send my synopsis to the iPod and work on it a little. Or I might curl up with my nook. But I won’t be rocking the word count, that’s for sure.

Dude. What did you do? (Don’t answer me, by the way because that requires typing).

Ice and heat and Ibuprofen. And rest. No work for you this weekend. Just read and elevate.

Okay, Shan? When it’s that bad? Go to the doctor. (Says the person who never does, even for broken bones…)

Shannon! That sounds awful. I hope it gets better by Monday. You for sure need to rest it. If it isn’t better by Monday, go to the doctor.

I agree. Go see a doctor. Pain that severe needs to be looked at.

Advil and rest has definitely helped. Hey, I’m typing and I don’t want to throw up! (Though I won’t be typing long. Just wanted to pop in my thoughts on Fantasy in Death over at Goodreads.)

I suspect the Macbook is the culprit. Or, rather my stupidity in getting carried away with what I was doing with the Macbook set on the coffee table. I love the touchpad and when I’m doing a lot of surfing/clicking, I tend to use it two-handed so I’m not always clicking on the lower right hand I designated as “right-click”. This turns my right wrist out when I’m sitting higher than the computer.

I know I didn’t hit it or catch myself on it. And it was starting to be painful before I went to bed (was actually the reason I stopped working), so I didn’t sleep on it wrong.

That must be it. And I’ll continue resting it.

Think I’ll read The Cinderella Deal next.

If it’s still bad in the morning, GO TO THE DOC’S! I’m not trying to be a bad seed here, but it could be a tiny clot. When pain like that comes on that quickly and that bad, you need to have it checked.

    Worried about you.

I think you need to see a doctor too. That doesn’t sound right. I hope it feels better soon. I think Jaci’s advice re ice/heat/advil is good. Take care!!

You could have a case of carpal tunnel from what you described you doing with your two-handed surfing. Might need to rethink that. But yeah, if it doesn’t get any better, you need to go to the dr. pronto!
