I’m over at Romancing the Blog today: To DRM or not to DRM…is there a question. Come join in the conversation!
And I caved. I bought the new Stephen King, Under the Dome, today.
In hardcover.
Yes, I’m ashamed. There were principles involved. Delaying the digital release until Christmas Eve to strongarm people into buying the hardcover is a stupid, assholic thing to do. I had righteous indignation and, dammit, I making a stand.
Then I saw it on the Walmart shelf this morning.
The hopes and dreams of a lifelong Stephen King fan are resting on this book. We’ve suffered through some shitty ones—hello, Insomnia…wtf was that?—but this one gives me the impression it could be similar to my favorite King book, Needful Things.
I couldn’t walk away from it.
My lame attempt at justification—my husband doesn’t read digitally, and he’ll want to read it, too. I’ll still have moments of being pissed off, like when my hand is cramping from trying to hold a 1074-page hardcover instead of a lean, mean digital reading machine.
But I folded like a napkin.

I did the same for the $12 category length Linda Howard. I’m weak. Weak as a newborn kitten.

I’m assuming, since you bought the book at Walmart, you got it at a great price. I agree that the recent King’s have been crappy, but this looks like it could be the “real King” again, so I too caved. I got it at Amazon for $9.00. They have since raised the price, but I managed to buy it for the lesser price. YEAH !!!!!

I paid $23 and change for it.
Ouch.
I didn’t get it at the $9 because I was boycotting due to their asinine no-digital policy.
*sigh*
I’m hoping it’s awesome!
And I haven’t read recent Linda Howards. I loved her old stuff, but haven’t connected with newer stuff.
