Writing & upside-down holidays

I’m busy writing. So far this is the first book ever to come to me scene after scene, with no jumping around and writing out of order. Discovering the story this way is a little different and energizing. (Of course, it’s probably because I have no clue about the murderer’s identity or motive, so that would make it hard to skip ahead.)

I started my Christmas shopping this morning by buying the Wii console. Was pretty proud of myself as our tradition has always been for my husband and I to make one stress-filled trip to the stores the Saturday before Christmas.

Then I realized SK doesn’t have a Halloween costume yet.

Oops.

Maybe I need to do my holidays in order over here.

I’ll worry about that next week, when all that’s left are princesses and red Power Rangers. (Oh, and Dear Walmart: What’s with the overload of Power Ranger costumes? They’re over. About a freakin’ Storm Trooper now and again?)

I’ll be writing hard this weekend. My poor husband has to take code update courses every so often for his electrical license, and this is the weekend. Saturday and Sunday, 8-5, sitting in a room listening to a lecture on electrical code updates. But that leaves the kids and I free to binge on video rentals, fast food and computer time!

I shall refrain from using the :boogie: icon out of respect for my poor husband.

I picked up costumes last week. Glad I did. Thanksgiving, Christmas, um. Does thinking about it count as preparation?

Sounds like your story’s going well. Rock on!

I did a lot of Christmas shopping already. We are SO proactive. :lmao:

Why don’t you let the SK make his costume? Might I suggest a trip to the thrift store? My favorite part of Halloween as a kid was putting together my costume from the mothball scented bowels of the local thrift store. Ahhhhh. Goodtimes.

I was tried to be pro-active for Halloween- a month ago went costume shopping in MA. Wal-Mart seems to think all boys are size 4-6. Argh. Thought we had plenty of time.. not. Birthday/costume party this afternoon. I’m spending my writing time looking for old t-shirts to tear up and make a Mario hat and yellow buttons with. Here’s hoping it doesn’t warm up too much so Monkey Boy can wear his snowpants as Mario overalls.

SK wants to be a “jet trooper” which, from what I gather, is a Storm Trooper with a jet pack.

He says he needs a Storm Trooper costume and we can duct tape flashlights on his back.

THEN he said he wants to be Jedi, like Obi Wan and if I could find him a brown Snuggie, it would be perfect. I think it’s simply his subversive way of getting a Snuggie, which he desperately wants.

    They don’t come in brown.

Ya know, I’m having deja vu here. We talked about brown Snuggies/Jedi costumes at some point.

Or I’m losing my mind. :baby: Back to writing before ALL the brain cells are gone.
