Model Behavior

So my guys dragged me to a model railroading show today. Because my husband likes to look and talk extensively, my job was mostly to ensure the Short Kid could remain happily in motion. While I have little interest in the subject myself, I know enough and care enough to be able to hold a conversation on the subject, just as my guys do for my writing.

Here’s one of my favorite scenes from the layouts on display today (sorry for the crappy cell shot, which doesn’t really show the fully functional firetruck lights):

As for the more hands on aspect of model railroading, my participation is more or less limited to painting the people. I love painting the people! Here’s a picture of a few I’ve done for the husband, with a penny included to show you how small they are:

To paint them I use a fine-tipped brush with most of the bristles cut off and a sewing needle. Oh, and while I believe every layout should have a hot chick in a red dress, I painted the French maid more or less as a joke for the husband.

(Oh, and just in case anybody should have any idea what I’m talking about, Mr. Stacey & Sons model 50’s-era brass HO scale B&M Railroad.)

I love the people best. They make the scene so much more interesting. If I had a Y chromosome, I’d be WAY into model trains too.

Wow. Seriously cool itty bitty tiny people. I used to love to go see the model train stuff at the museum.
