Do they come with a free probe?

So last night after work the husband upgraded all of our smoke detectors. When we remodeled, he hardwired in good smokes, but that was a few years ago and he wanted to change them out for new and improved models. (Honestly, I think it was easier for him to install new ones than for us to go around and clean the others.)

One of the lovely new and improved features is a more noticeable-to-Joe-Homeowner indicator light. Nice big glowing green lights to let you know with a mere glance your smokes are in good-to-go mode.

And I have to say they’re very noticeable. Especially when the lights all go off and the person who struggles every night to fall asleep (yeah, that would be me) notices her bedroom—and therefore the rest of the house, naturally—is now awash in an alien green glow.

(If you’re like my husband, you’re thinking “Well, close your eyes, Shan, and then the eerie green glow won’t bother you”. Pfffftttt.)

It’s too bad I don’t write science fiction because my imagination coughed up some pretty interesting scenarios in the wee hours.

So what’s your favorite alien movie? Mine is….hmm….Independence Day, I think. And does anybody else fondly remember “V”, the series with Marc Singer? I should see if that’s available on DVD, because I’d totally buy it.

I’m so with you. I would have lain awake and come up with some very interesting tales. Alien green lights wouldn’t work for me. LOL I’m too skeered of things that go bump in the night. :hide:

Yes, I remember “V”—I think Marc Singer was one of my first celebrity crushes!
Independence Day is one of the best I can come up with.
I usually don’t do horror, but I did like the AVP movie as well.

*waits for Shan’s next MS containing green glowing lights*

I ADORED V! And Independence Day ties with Aliens as my SECOND favorite. Serenity has to top the list.

Does Serenity count as an alien movie? Are there aliens? Hm. But I do love me some Serenity. I need to watch it on my new 52″ HDTV. *looks at Shan*

    :angie:

I think the original Star Wars trilogy are my favorite alien movies.

I haven’t seen AVP yet. I thought I might enjoy it more if I saw Aliens first. And I haven’t seen Predator in eons.

Mel, did you see that movie in which Marc Singer played a blind man? Umm….I think it was “If You Could See What I Hear.” Awesome movie. (Beastmaster being another favorite I rarely admit to, although I think I’ve admitted in public twice already now.)

I’m afraid I won’t love “V” now as much as I did when I was…*does math*…eleven. (I feel so old). Like maybe now I’ll see the cheesiness, like with Star Trek. I’m still ordering it, though.

Hmm…Serenity as an alien movie? Not really, but we should count it anyway because it gives me an excuse to mentally lick Mal.

And 52″? Show-off. Wait until you have to dust it ever five seconds or it looks like shit. then I’ll get to show-off because I have five inches or so less to clean.

    :cowboy:

Ooh, alien green glow. Like the special glasses that let you see THEM?

Oh, I was just thinking science fiction ’cause she said too bad she doesn’t write it, but you’re right, she did say alien movies.

If we say “alien” means “not from Earth” then sure, we can call Serenity alien! None of those people came from Earth! LOL

    Can we count the Reavers?

    Ah, yes.
    “V”
Where Freddy Krueger was the only alien vegetarian.
    Who knew?

Good point, Natalie! And hey, if all aliens looked like Mal, we’d be sending out engraved invitation beacons.

I have to run to Walmart later, but I doubt they’ll have “V” actually on the shelf. I’m going to have to order it, I think. I might see if they have Aliens, though. I know I’ve seen part of it, but I can’t remember if I’ve seen the entire thing.
