Battle of the Autobuys

(I’ll apologize up front for the lack of linkage. Amazon loads very slowly for me and I’m in a wicked rush. Seems nobody told me it’s October and all those nifty things like registrations and inspections…expired. Panic!)

So yesterday I was in Walmart and there it was, finally. J.R. Ward’s Lover Unbound. Yay! Then I spot Catch of the Day by Kristan Higgins. I knew it was out, because Jaci told me. She and I have been practically salivating waiting for CotD after falling head over heels in love with her debut, Fools Rush In.

I try very hard to only sneak one book at a time into the grocery budget. Usually I’m successful. But choosing between my BDB fix and CotD? So hard.

A couple of random thoughts that ran through my head:

I’ve read all the LU spoilers and I already know my dream of Butch, V, a steamy shower and a bottle of Ranger-scented body wash ain’t gonna happen.

But I try not to read utterly brilliant contemporary romance while I’m writing because it, more than anything else, makes me feel inferior.

Then again, Kristan Higgins’s first book is probably on my Top Ten LIFETIME Favorite Books in the Romance category, so I can’t just leave the second one here.

But there are no Lesser POVs in LU, and that’s a plus for me.

I’m sure you can guess the ending. Yes, I bought them both. I managed to refrain from starting Catch of the Day until I had the fridge items put away. WICKED awesome book.

If you like contemporary romantic comedy and you haven’t read Kristan Higgins, you are seriously missing out.

And I’ll be spending my car appointment with Vishous.

EDITED TO ADD: I can’t believe I stopped to add this when I have like five minutes to take a shower, get dressed, pack the short kid’s lunch, get him dressed and take him to school.

Anyway, Kristan Higgins’s books aren’t a series. They’re not connected to one another, so you can grab CotD, fall in love with it, then find FRI. :boogie:

My reading has suffered with all the chaos going on at my house the past few weeks. And Kristan’s book came last week and I haven’t read it yet! Ack! Must rectify that immediately so we can talk about it. :coffee:

    Read it today, J!

    And you’ll love it, Charli.

One interesting thing about Catch of the Day, I almost never read first person/present tense. Not my cuppa. But this book is so good I only noticed it for about two sentences.

And the hero….O. M. G. He shot right past Ranger and Jamie Frasier to the #1 spot.

Am now 10 chapters into Fools Rush In. I can’t believe I’ve had this languishing on the bookshelf for months. I love Sam.

Catch of the Day was the best romantic comedy I’ve read in ages (and I liked Fools Rush In a lot too). Why oh why isn’t this woman more popular? Thanks for bringing her to more people’s attention. I’m planning on hand selling it to as many people as I can over the next few weeks.
