Sunday drive to Borders

The short kid seemed back on his feet (he’s since relapsed—I hate fevers) and the husband needed some truck parts they didn’t have in town, so off we went to the city. Always a good excuse to go to Borders, especially since Walmart hasn’t put out Lover Unbound yet. Still waiting for my BDB fix.

Guess what? No LU at Borders. Anywhere. I even pulled it up on the search computer and it said “likely in the store”.

:wtf:

Likely in the store? What the hell does that mean? Apparently it means the book isn’t anywhere I can find it. They did have Lover Revealed on the endcap, though, which I thought was a little smarmy, like maybe they were trying to pass it off to anybody who didn’t look closely enough.

So the wait for my BDB fix goes on.

I did, however get another book I was looking for:

Driven by Eve Kenin

Raina Bowen knows she can handle herself just fine against anything the harsh Northern Waste throws at her. Until it throws her an enigmatic stranger called Wizard. First, she has to haul him out of a brawl he can’t hope to win. And next, her libido is shooting into overdrive at the feel of his hard body pressed against hers on the back of her snowscooter. But there’s something not quite right about this guy. Before she can strip bare Wizard’s secrets, they’re lured into a race for their lives, battling rival truckers, ice pirates…and a merciless maniac with a very personal vendetta.

How awesome is this book? We went to Applebee’s for dinner (the short kid hadn’t relapsed yet), and I smuggled the book in my purse so I could hold it down under table level and off to the side and read while my family talked. I have a strict no-reading-during-dinner rule, so I took some serious crap when they caught me. But it was worth it.

I’m about three-quarters through it, but it’s already shaping up to be one of my favorite books of 2007. I have my fingers crossed it stays strong to the last page.

EDITED TO ADD: It did. Want more. Now, thank you.

I thought I was too old and boring a reader for Dorchester’s Shomi line, but maybe not.

I think the Shomi line is the coolest thing going. :woot:
