My editor’s feeling a little bit blue, one of those occasions that calls for a Hallmark card, right? I do not, however, do well with Hallmark sentiments, so here—in limerick form—is my Ode to Angie. (Ignore the awkward tenses in the first line, though. The curse of the limerick.)
There once was an editor who talks
Just a wee bit too much about socks
But at her job she kicks ass
And she does it with class
She’s my editor and she totally rocks.
She catches all those words I like to repeat
And if my hero’s boots are still on his feet
When he gets into bed
Or her hair turns to red
Trust me, editing me’s no easy feat.
So, my dear editor, if you’re feeling blue
There’s one thing you really should do
Ignore all the crap
Put .5 down for a nap
And buy a new purse, and matching shoes, too.

That Shannon, she’s really quite funny
And as always, she’s right on the money
Poor Angie should shop
As an editing stop
And then go back to red penning all sunny.
(Buy 2 purses, Angie. I know how much those adverbs pain you.)
