Happy 6th Birthday, short kid

Where does the time go? Here’s you being held by your big brother for the first time:

Now you’re building dams together:

The whole world is your stage and we’re simply your supporting cast, and that’s okay because we get to bask in the warmth of your larger-than-life personality. Your silliness, your drama, your humor and your music bring joy to every day, and I can’t imagine how quiet and still our lives would be without you.

Or your chocolate-faced moose impressions:

Happy birthday, baby boy. My wish for you…don’t change. Always being willing to do karaoke when the line at Walmart is too long and you want to cheer up the cranky, waiting people. Always be willing to tell knock-knock jokes that make no sense because the look of confusion on your audience’s face amuses you. Always be brilliant but not feel a need to prove it. Always laugh at yourself when you get burned by the five-second rule and get cat hair in your mouth. Always sucker punch your big brother when you get the chance, but morph into a sibling-protecting Hulk if somebody else upsets him. Always make your dad laugh so hard he can’t breathe when he’s trying to punish you.

And always put your lips to my cheek and whisper, “You’re the best mom a boy could ever hope for.”

It’s not hard to be. I have the best boys a mom could ever hope for.
