Hiding and seeking Forever Again

We just got back from the trek to our big city Borders (Concord, NH) and I am wicked, wicked annoyed.

It was annoying enough to find out they’d pulled all of the EC books out of romance and stuck them in the wasteland of Erotica. Which they’re not. But they put Forever Again there! Yes, that’s right. My traditional romance with no sexual content has been pulled from Romance and stuck in Erotica. As they say in my favorite beer commercials: BRILL-YUNT! And interestingly enough, Forever Again was the only Samhain book moved. The others all remain in the romance section, with NCP and Loose-ID and Brava and whatnot.

This annoys me for two reasons:

1—I have never, ever seen anybody in the Erotica aisle of my Borders. But one practically has to take a number to get into the romance aisle. I don’t wanna be in the Erotica aisle, thanks.

2—If a reader should happen into the Erotica aisle and should happen to choose my book, guess who’s going to be blamed when it’s not what she thought it was going to be? Me. My name’s on the cover.

And they won’t let me put it back. “Ummm…yeah…we’re working on that.” Working on what? Tanking sales and aggravating readers? Yeah, pisser job, dude.

See Shan. See Shan’s blood pressure skyrocket. See Shan’s head explode.

Dammit.

UPDATE: My mistake was in being a good girl and asking. Next time I’m just going to move them myself.

Still fuming. It bothers me they have so little regard for readers as to not care enough to even have a decent discussion with me about it.

Dammit.

My Waldenbooks has moved Ellora’s Cave out of romance and into a section of its own next to fantasy and SF. Now I’m picturing all the SFF fans getting romance cooties.

I can’t find the Samhain books, dunno where they put them. I know they have mine, but can I find it? Hopefully not in SFF, although The Gripping Beast would probably find a crossover audience there. Except for the romance cooties…

Very interesting. I wonder if this is a widespread corporate move or just local to your bookstore. Maybe some old blue hair bought an EC book thinking traditional romance and nearly had a stroke :lmao:

I was just at Waldenbooks and the EC, Samhain, NCP, Aphrodisia whatnot were all at the end of romance next to the categories taking up half the row of shelves (category had the other half).

I was just in the Borders nearest to my house and the EC books were in the trade sized “hot” romance section, right near the cash register. I shop in the erotica section of Borders but it’s oftentimes way the heck out of the way and nothing that belongs in that section is erotic romance.

    Sigh

That’s outrageous. In my Borders, EC has its own section right next to the trade size, which is right at the beginning of the romance section, before the A’s. Samhain and Aphrodisia, etc are all mixed in with the trade size. Go figure.

Ours were shelved exactly like Lori’s until this most recent visit.

Over on Angie’s blog, Sherry said in the comments:

I noticed they had moved all the EC books to erotica section at my Borders 6 weeks ago or so.

So, unfortunately, it’s not just my Borders. I’d love to know if this is a Borders-wide directive.

And the conspiracy theorist in me can’t help but wonder if this is the beginning of a backlash against the amount of very explicit sex flooding the market.

What I do know is that even The Sisters of the Immaculate Love Scene (&#169 PBW) wouldn’t put Forever Again in the erotica aisle.

    WHY?

Is there an assumption on the part of booksellers that any trade-sized, non-NY romance is erotic?

I swear it makes me wanna cry.

 I haven’t seen any of our books when I’ve been to Borders–of course mine isn’t out in print yet. But it seems like Pa doesn’t have Samhain–unless they’re selling out in a snap.

I must report that in San Antonio the borders still has all the romance trades two stand up shelves (five rows I think) with the books mixed by author. Oh and some hardbacks mixed in too.

There was one copy of Forever Again. Sorry there wasn’t anyone around to pimp you to *g*. I couldn’t remember who was all in print but a quick scan I found about four copies of samhain books.

my work here is done :diva:

The Borders in St. Peter’s MO still has them with the Romance. All the trades are together including Ellora’s, in alphebetical order.:cheer:

I check my Borders often. The ECs, Phaze, Samhain, NCP, Loose Id, etc are still in encap shelves in romance. I hope they don’t get moved, our erotic section is in the boonies.

BTW, if you’re in Virginia Beach, they have my Truth or Dare shelved. Look for the $20 bill I stuck in a copy. LOL j/k
