I’m going to cry “Uncle!” and choose the winners for the Samhain gift certificates tomorrow. I’ve been wrestling with setting up a wireless router, which everybody told me would be easy. Yeah, maybe if you’re not trying to get a 5-year-old desktop and a brandy new laptop to play nice with each other. And like I know what the hell an ascii character is.
I seem to be on my network right now, but I’m ‘putered out, so I’ll be bahk.

Dare I ask which brand router/adapter you got?

Nothing is ever easy with computers if you’re doing it yourself. Nothing.
Husband is currently about to fit a new 160Gb secondary hard drive to his computer.
I’m afraid….

I got a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router, model # WRT54G. (Because that’s what the young computer whiz at the store recommended and used personally.) It probably would have been easy as pie if 1—my desktop wasn’t an old geezer that can’t keep it up and 2—my cable provider wasn’t having issues at the exact time I was doing it.
Yes, that’s my luck.

Same thing happened to us with our provider. They insisted it was our equipment so we bought a new modem and adapter, did every troubleshooting thingamabob known to man, and then guess what? They had something burnt out in the street box — our whole neighborhood had been out of service, but do they admit it and save us the headache and a couple hundred bucks? Of COURSE not. :cursin:
Anyway, Linksys does rock. Should have no trouble after this initial bout. Sorry it was such a production.
