Not even 24 hours in…

…to 2006 and we’ve just spent five of them at the emergency room.

*sigh*

The short kid decided a fever of almost 104 would be a good way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, and he threw in some headache, sore throat and trouble swallowing to boot.

Strep, you say? That’s what I said.

Apparently not. They tested him for influenza and strep and whatnot, and I guess he’s got an unidentified viral infection. Since his fever came down after they dosed him with Tylenol and Motrin (and let him rest for FIVE hours), they sent us home emptyhanded. Not even a mild antibiotic. (Which I don’t necessarily dislike because I like to encourage their bodies to be strong on their own, but 104!)

So, now it’s 9:20 and they’re eating supper. And the tall child has school tomorrow.

Yeah. Do we know how to ring in a new year or what?

Trying to think of something witty to say here, like… it can only get better from here…? But hugs, Shan, worried over a sick kid is NO fun at all. Take care that you all don’t get this “unknown viral infection”. (((((Shan’s family))))

Yes, we’ll just consider it getting the worst over with early. I’m sorry you had to deal with that today!

No antibiotic is because it’s viral, and antibiotics are for bacteria. They do nothing for a virus. Unfortunately, nothing really does.

I hope he gets over it soon and doesn’t pass it around!

Awww, poor Liam! And poor Mommy. I’m sure spending time in the ER is just what you wanted to do while Stoo-it is off romping in the snow. Hope Liam is better tomorrow, babe!

He’s back on his feet, so he must feel a bit better. A tad warm, but not feverish.

Of course, now the tall kid has the red demon eyes. There’s something going around up here that looks like conjunctivitis, only redder and resistant to the meds.

And after last night, neither will even consider a doctor appt.
