Rules for writing

Here’s Shannon’s “Trapped in the house with children because it’s a snowday” list of rules for writing:

1 — When used as a personal pronoun, “I” is capitalized. Every rule has an exception? Not this one.

2 — Both of my boys had IEPs for speech delays, one aspect of which was substituting “F” for the “TH” blend. But even my special needs kids know how to spell with, something and nothing.

3 — Paragraph breaks are our friends.

*Sends handsome hunk to Shan’s house to hook her up to IV drip. Clearly, she needs it.*

I’m sorry, but my brain went straight to that line from Flowers For Algernon: “Punctuation? Is. Fun!”

*looks furtively around for ED* But I”m not over here making jokes about bad punctuation. I’m editing the Viking:hide:!

    Always with you, darling.

It was Rhonda who first said to me, with polite diffidence, “you know, if you put a paragraph break in here, it would have more impact.” That remains one of the most blinding illumination moments in my erratic writing career to date…

MAN, I want to be writing.
