About the other. . .I know what you mean. And it has nothing to do with being proud of what you’ve written — heck, I don’t think my HUSBAND would take kindly to some of my lovescenes, and they’re ridiculously tame by comparison to some stuff out there. Having/knowing about sex has nothing to do with it. Everyone has their own comfort level, and the smart author understands and respects that. Whenever someone says they want to read my stuff, I’m very upfront about what they’re likely to run into, because that’s only fair.
