Where did you hide her now?

I finally got a chance to get to Borders yesterday. (Because I had to go into the city to get an antique plate for the new baby.) I was hunting two books which, because of their trade size, I can’t get in town— Gena’s Awaken Me Darkly and Julie Kenner’s Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom

I’d heard, of course, about Awaken Me Darkly sometimes being found in the sci-fi/fantasy section, so I knew I’d have to hunt a bit. Do you think I could find either one? Of course not! And no way, no how was I leaving that store without those two books. And every booksearch computer in the place was occupied by people who could neither type nor understand the concept of a keyword. “Why are they all albums?” “Because you searched in music. And they’re called CDs now.”

So, anyway. I finally found Carpe Demon in the sci-fi section. Okay, I’m halfway to happy here. I wandered through the romance again. Through the sci-fi and fantasy. Again. Checked all the endcaps. Finally I managed to snap up a computer (because god forbid they should hire real live reading people) and searched.

Fiction: Literature. There Gena was, between Carol Shields and Anita Shreve, halfway across the store.

Whew.

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssss! I’m LOVING Awaken Me Darkly! Loving it. If I didn’t have a proposal to write I’d be devouring it every second of the day. As it is, I’m devouring it every ‘free’ second of the day I can spare. It’s fabulous. And I still have to go buy Carpe Demon. I can’t wait. Way to go on the tenacity, Shan! :woot:

If illogical bookstores make you crazy, may I suggest staying away from Books A Million. They have some Alison Kent SG5 books in Liteature, some in Romance. :wtf:

Enjoy Gena’s book. It was so good I devoured it in one sitting.

Sounds like me last trip to B&N. Nothing was where I expected it to be and without the aid of those little computer stations I would have wandered the store half the day looking. :eyebrow:

Worth it to come home with a stack of excellent reading, though!

What else did you get?? Just those two books? And did you use the coupon, huh, huh?

And just because I haven’t done this in awhile… shouldn’t you be working on a book? :whip: :whip:

Just those two. But I had the tall and short kids with me so, even with the coupon, I hit $50.

    Oh, and…:hide:
