So I was just sitting here writing a lovely rant on self-righteous bitches who hang on authors they give zero respect to in a transparent bid for traffic.
Unfortunately, I can hear the news from here, and two young men in my town drowned tonight. They were able to rescue a 9-year-old boy, but not his 16-year-old brother and a friend. I’m assuming the friend was a friend of the older boy, but if not, then my son has lost a classmate. And one of my son’s classmates has tragically lost a big brother. We haven’t had to do this yet, and quite frankly, I don’t have the heart anymore right now for a snarky rant.
As to the Graphical Standards, I applaude the board for taking steps to remedy one big-ass mistake. I’m not happy to see an ad hoc committee for GS being formed, because that means they’re just going to bring the damn things back anyway.
As for the RWR, I don’t see why they can’t just say “We reserve the right to reject advertising based on graphical content”? I admit I wouldn’t have a problem with graphical standards for the RWR. (I hate the word graphical. Really. Why isn’t graphic enough?) But it certainly doesn’t need to extend beyond that.
I’m still pissed. I’m still REALLY pissed about the censorship on the rwaorg list. But I’m too tired and too wiped out by the heat/humidity wave to sit here and rant. (Technically it’s not a heat wave as it doesn’t meet the meteorological criteria, but it’s been :censor: hot for too many days. That’s enough.)

I’m so sorry to hear about those boys, Shannon. My heart goes out to the families. How awful.

Terrible news, Shannon. Hope things cool off and your week looks up.

What a horrible thing. We’ve lost elderly family members, but I’ve yet to have my kids lose friends. It’s one of those parenting jobs you hope you never get.
Don’t let the petty stuff get to you. Definitely not worth it.

It’s so hard. My kids have lost several friends to auto accidents (stupid driving and/or stupid drivers), one to a gunshot, one to meningitis, one to a suicide . . . it’s devastating to deal with! Hugs!!

Thanks, everybody.
Our newscast was a little confusing, and the boys were in our town, but from the next town over. So the tall child remains oblivious, but my heart breaks for them.
