Let’s see how many of the RITA finalist books I’ve read…
Joint Forces by Catherine Mann in Long Contemporary– She’s one of my most favoritest authors. The only one of her books I haven’t adored is the one she wrote for the Family Secrets continuity (or whichever continuity).
A.K.A. Goddess by Evelyn Vaughn and The Ocean Between Us by Susan Wiggs in Novel with Strong Romantic Elements– I loved both books, but this is a weird category. A category and a big old women’s fiction topseller.
Colder Than Ice by Maggie Shayne in Romantic Suspense– I like her vampires better.
Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie in Contemporary Single Title–It’s Jennifer Crusie. ‘Nuff said.
That’s it. How very pathetic. Guess I have some reading to do.

I’ve read none of them, and only Bet Me is in the tbr pile.

I’m curious about Best First Book. Obviously that means fiction, since one of the finalists had out a non-fiction book prior to her fiction release.

I read Dark Highlander by Karen Marie Moning, and Hers for the Weekend by Tanya Michaels. I have Blue Moon by Lori Handeland on my bookshelf but haven’t read it yet. I am oh so woefully behind in my reading! But I LOVED Karen’s and Tanya’s books!
None of the RITA books I judged finaled. And I had at least 3 that I just loved and scored high.
Oh and no erotic romance finaled. Big freakin surprise there.
Hmph.

I was surprised that I’d read four:
A Marriage of Majors by Elizabeth Ashtree
Bet Me Crusie
Tall, Dark, and Texan Jane Sullivan
Shadowheart Laura Kinsale
AKA Goddess is in my tbr pile.

I’m way to busy to add all the finalists to my TBR pile, but I try to make it a point to read the RITA winners every year.
I’m surprised by how many of them I don’t like as much as I liked other books. :eyebrow:

I haven’t read many of them either. I just read ‘Colder than Ice’ a couple of days ago, and have to confess I wanted to scream at the hero for his constant, unnecessary (IMHO), lies to the h. Maybe I’m just getting super pernickity in my old age….
