Ghede, we hardly knew you

Sylvia linked to Ghede Books’ notice this morning.

It is with deep regret that we have to suspend the launch of our Ghede Books imprint.

Due to the current conservative climate, the launching of an erotica site now or in the near future places in jeopardy our ability to retain commercial banking due to strict adult business policies placed by commercial financial institutions.

We’ve invested time and money into this project. Book editing, cover art, marketing and web development. This is as big a disappointment for us as it is for you.

I never had a strong desire to write for them, because Ellora’s Cave fulfills my HEA requirements, but I feel terrible for anybody who made their first sale to Ghede. Heck, any sale, really.

And who knows if it’s PayPal or some other commercial stuffed-shirts, but it’s bad enough Walmart can dictate content. We don’t need everybody with impact on the wallet censoring writers.

So,…do the other erotica publishers keep their money under their mattresses?

Shannon, it is sad that they went under so quickly :(

Ellora’s Cave is doing really wonderful covers! I saw those ones yesterday. Gorgeous!

I’ve read a couple of ECs lately that I thought were not particularly Romanicti

I wonder if they’re going to take some of the Ghede titles and just make them appropriate for ECs?

This is pretty, but I miss your coffee cups. And your comment box is WAY LONG!

Which browser do you use? The comments box looks okay in Firefox and Explorer (although the menu’s jogged too high in IE, and it’s driving me batty, even though I use Firefox, because I know a lot of people use IE, even though it’s horrible and likes to reinvent margins at will.)

Anyway. I can’t recreate it (*snort* Like I could fix it if I could.)

    Anybody else?

errr…from what I understand, some of those Ghede books would take more than
just a little reworking to make them EC suitable. I haven’t seen them but consider
that they were too hard core for even EC’s X rating…

And since it doesn’t scroll over there, one has to type blind. Lovely!

But it seems okay in Firefox. Okay, I’m off to scour the support board. They’re too busy fielding upgrade bugs to answer questions like this, but maybe it’s in an archive somewhere.
