A child’s wacky perception

The Short Kid’s been getting up a little earlier in the morning lately. Even more than his big brother or any other kid I’ve known, he’s ruled by the light and not by the clock. This means he’s up during my caffeine power-up hour and we had this conversation yesterday morning…

Him: I know you like coffee, Mom, but this coffee gods thing you’re doing is weird.

Me: What are you talking about?

Him: Before you pour the coffee in the cup, you raise it up in the air like a salute to the coffee gods. It’s weird.

I’m not exactly at my best early in the morning, so I blew him off with the whatever look. Then this morning, I went into the kitchen to pour a cup of coffee and, as I always do, I held the coffee pot up to the light so I could look through the bottom and see if there were grounds floating around. Then I poured my coffee.

The Short Kid just shook his head and walked away.

Oh thank you for the chuckle. I have to admit I get a little annoyed when the littlest gremlin gets up before I’ve started my tea.

Now that is funny. :) What a hilarious kid you have. The very best part is he doesn’t know that he’s hilarious. This bodes well for the rest of his life, if you ask me.

That sounds very much like mornings in our house, right down to the salute to the gods of not crunchy coffee, lol. All of MB’s friends that sleep over know not to be bouncy or clingy with me until I’ve had 20 min of quiet with my coffee. :/
