Happy Birthday, Tall Kid
And he’s literally the tall kid, now. He’s not only the taller of the two boys, but he’s taller than both parents. Dayum. But thirteen years old? How did that happen?
Here’s my very favorite picture of him—the one that sits next to my desk. The tall kid is, by nature, reserved and quiet and not particularly adventurous. But when he was almost seven we went to Florida and stopped by Daytona Beach. He’d never been in the ocean and I caught him pretending to “surf”. We rarely capture a spontaneous, open expression on him, so I treasure this shot.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go sob into my coffee cup.

13 is just the beginning of all the wonderful stuff ahead.
You can be the hot mom that doesn’t look like she could be the mother of a teenager.
Happy Birthday Tall Kid!

Happy Birthday, Tall Kid!
And why the hell is it harder for us to deal with our kids turning 13 or 16 or whatever than it is to face milestone ages for ourselves?

Been there, done that.
Five. Freaking. Times.
You will survive, chica. And live to tell the tale.

Happy Birthday to the Tall Kid!

Great picture, great kid, because he’s got a great mom. And uh, no crying in the coffee that’s just sacrilegious

I just reviewed my son’s senior pictures yesterday, I can’t believe he’ll be graduating in 2009. Where did the time go? I teared up a little bit, he put his arm around me and said It’s alright Mom, that made it worse.

I’m right there with you, Shannon! My oldest turned 13 a week ago tomorrow, then promptly flew off to Holland. She’s taller than me, too. I don’t think that’s supposed to happen. :( Not with girls!

Oh, Shannon, I’m with you. My tall kid turns 9 on Sunday. His dad and I are very tall, but still the kids hitting my shoulders! Yikes. Where did the time go?
I love that shot, btw. A very handsome young man!
