T-minus seven days and counting…

…until On the Edge releases! A couple of people have asked me if this is Gallagher’s book. It’s not. He hasn’t suffered nearly enough yet. But he plays a big part in this book—he’s a little out of his element and pretty stressed. He’s a funny bastard when he’s stressed out. OtE’s hero is Tony Casavetti, who was mentioned as being undercover during the events of the first book. Charlotte Rhames, the administrative goddess of the Group, is the heroine. Explosions and mayhem ensue.

I’m a little anxious about this one. It’s the first time I’ve done a second-in-a-series book, and it’s a whole new level of anxiety. Especially with the first book, 72 Hours getting a strong dose of positive attention lately. No pressure, right? But Mandy thinks On the Edge is even better than the first book, which goes a long way toward saving my fingernails. I don’t have author copies yet and I’m not sure how the formatting schedule affects the book going to reviewers, but I’ve started making a squeaking sound and closing my eyes every time review links are posted on the Samhain loop. I’m going to look like the Bride of Frankenstein by the time this is over.

In other news, Angie has a great post up on RTB about pop culture references in books. She had four authors from four countries offer samples (I did one for the U.S.) and it’s an interesting and entertaining entry—which I think proves her point. She also offers the translations and further examples on her own blog.

I must admit I didn’t do four examples because I’m an overachiever, as Angie says. I was merely trying to hide the fact she asked for pop culture references from quite possibly the most un-hip person on the planet.
