It was also courtesy of him that I learned I will hit the throttle when panicking on a three-wheeler instead of the brake. I will also hold on to it as I roll down the wooded hill, instead of letting go and being free of it. He also owned the parrot that got tangled in my hair and, along with the vicious Virginian goose, cemented my fear of birds. And he owned the pig that was thrown on my head while I was sleeping on his couch. Yes, the couch was in the house. So was the pig. Huh. Both That Man and I grew up in MO--me on a farm, him in our hometown of a whopping 800 citizens (he's the "city boy"). He talks way worse than I do!
