Things that make you say hmmmm…
There’s been a whole lot of stuff making me scratch my head and think
on the net lately.
Flame wars, reactive sugar overdoses, publishing decisions that make one wonder who exactly is off what rocker. Maybe it’s the heat, but I’m taking this as a sign I need to put my head down and write until a whole lot of people get over themselves.
I’m polishing the erotic, futuristic novella I’d been working on before it got shunted aside for other projects. It’s a lot more kinky than Roadtrip, but it worked for the story, and I had a hell of a lot of fun writing it. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it rom-com, but it’s light. Keep your fingers crossed Bree likes it.
I decided yesterday I really need to tie up some loose ends before I start or even plan any new projects. Being away from a story for too long makes it hard to come back and pick up where you left off. So I’m going to clean my plate in between trips to the buffet line this time…I hope.

I’ve been thinking the same thing, Shan. Even thought about either buying myself a simple latptop with no Internet, or just deleting my Bloglines. Either way, I’s a gonna go hide and write for a good long while.

It always heats up like this before National. Then everyone goes and herds and pointedly ignores their enemies while doing kind things like sabotaging the big luncheon book laydowns or trashing stuff in the goody room.
I kind of miss having a front seat to watch it. Got some of my best heartless bitch character material from those cons. *Sniff*

Shan, yay on the futuristic! Fingers crossed for you.
I hear you on cleaning the plate. I have way too many things in the works right now. Had to be that way for timelines and proposal dates but I am looking forward to FINISHING. It feels very scattered to have so much in progress at once. One at a time, we’ll knock ‘em down. With lots and lots of

I have no idea if it’s an RWA urban myth or not, but I heard they even knocked a woman out of her wheelchair in the rush to get free bookmarks a couple/few years back.
Caffeinated Manuscript Bowling, Charli…I like it.

Huh. I saw none of that at Nationals last year.
color me clueless.
I think I’ll hide behind my agent and editors this year.

All this bitchy fun must go on somewhere else. I didn’t find any bitchy blogs lately. And I so like watching train wrecks.

Jaci and Gabriele, thank you. I was feeling quite clueless. I haven’t seen any of that stuff online, at least the places where I hang out, and I’ve never seen that crap at National, either.
Sure, I’ve been in “the big push” at free signings, where the crowd is in a constant attempt to surge to the front (but going nowhere). And I’m sure people take more than one of an item in the Goody Room. But nothing worse than that. Maybe being a Goody Two-Shoes makes me oblivious, or draws only the good stuff to me. :)

Oy! I’ve got lots of irons in the fire as well. I finally had to break down and do something really drastic. Get organized. It’s a bad bad word in my vocabulary. But I’ve got contracted work out the wazoo and set times to finish all of it. As hard as it is to do, I just have to forget about everything else but what I’m currently working on, push hard to the finish and then allow myself to go on to the next one. I absolutely cannot work on more than one thing at a time. My frazzled brain just doesn’t operate that way.

I do not exaggerate things, ladies. The luncheon book laydown sabotage (2000) was recorded for posterity in an angry letter about it after National published in the RWR. The goody room target trashing I witnessed personally, two years running. This was back when print authors were trying to oust e-book authors, MJD quit in a huff, before erotica got big, when we had a guy President and everyone had nothing good to say about anyone else.
I’m sure it’s all hearts and flowers now.

The wheelchair legend postdates me, Shan, so I can’t confirm. There was this blind chick and her guide dog who got shoved pretty good during the stampede for the free canapes during New Orleans, but she stayed on her feet. :)

Wowza. I’m glad I never witnessed any of that. I’ve always been too poor to go to Nationals hehehehe.

i’ve seen all sorts of nastiness going on in blog world. I’m just ignoring it. safer than way.
not to mention it looks really bad for an author to jump into the fray… or worse… start it.

PBW, I certainly wasn’t saying you exaggerated! Just that *I* haven’t seen it. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen!
