Sabotaged!

Oh, that naughty Mel! She knows I’m trying to wrap up these edits and compose a halfway intelligent agent query letter and finish up a novella, so what does she do?

Yummy Anakin pictures

If you don’t see me anytime soon, I’m probably still licking my monitor.

Have I mentioned how much I hate query letters? I can write a damn synopsis. I don’t like them, but I can write one. But query letters? Blech. Maybe because a synopsis talks about the story, and in a query letter I have to talk about myself. I don’t know why I struggle with them so much. Honing the blurb is the only part I’m enjoying.

    :penguin:

The penguin made me do it. Really.

:cheer: Go Shan, Go, you can do it, really you can! I have every bit of faith that you’ll have the bestest query this side of the Atlantic!

  2. Jaci Says:

Do I get to read the query? huh? huh? huh? :whip:

  3. Shannon Says:

Read it? Hell, you can write it!

    :lmao:

    :hide:

A query letter has to talk about yourself? You mean, like that little blurb at the end — the one that says you’re a) published, b) not published, c) a (pick one or more) contest winner, MFA, industry insider, cousin of bestselling novelist, or d) a certifiable expert in the topic upon which you are writing? That part?

I spend most of my time talking about the story, becuase I’m not usually half so interesting. How many psychic SEALs with secret babies who have to pretend to be engaged to princesses of Monaco-like nations can there be?

  5. Jordan Says:

Good for you! I can’t write either one.

  6. Shannon Says:

You mean, like that little blurb at the end — the one that says you’re

    a) published, b) not published, — A. Unless, apparently, you’re a NY pub, in which I gather I revert to B. So, even though I know the agent doesn’t have a bias against epubs, I know that she wouldn’t be able to chalk that up the “going for her with NY” column.

    c) a (pick one or more) contest winner, — Didn’t do the contest circuit.

    MFA, — Nope

industry insider, — Maybe if I really overinflated my role at eHQ, but nothing that would impress a ST house.

cousin of bestselling novelist, :lmao: I might mention family members if I was querying Dr. Phil or Jerry Springer.

    d) a certifiable expert in the topic upon which you are writing? — certifiable I can do. Expert…not so much.

    That part?

Yup, that part. It’s surprisingly hard for me to fill that space. Maybe I should claim to be the amnesiac bride of a sheik. Although, I probably wouldn’t remember being an amnesiac.

You can do it, dingbat. Memberships, chapter stuff, time writing, etc, etc…..

I always keep that bit short, because pretty much all I can say is that I’m a member of two writing orgs.

Oh, and the Anni thing? I so did not get it.

I so get it now. *shiver*

  8. Shannon Says:

In Episode II, when they first get to the lake house—shortly before he kisses her—and he gives her a sideways, angry look?

    :nookie:

    Yup yup.

I guess I’d better finish the query before I give up my membership, then.

  9. Larissa Says:

Oooh, I love writing query letters. HATE synopses. Hate ‘em.

    Good luck!

You have no problem writing a synopsis? Well then, girl, you are my hero! I hate writing those dang things! :cursin: I’d rather tackle a query letter any day. LOL Good luck, Shannon. You can do it!

  12. Anna Lucia Says:

    So, still licking the monitor?

  13. Mel Says:

    So, still licking the monitor?

She must be… maybe I should go remove those pictures so she’ll actually post a new blog!

  14. Kate Says:

    you’re taking TIME OFF? :wtf::wtf:

  15. Shannon Says:
