Romancing the Brouhaha
My reaction as an RTB columnist?
I don’t care.
I did care for a while. Looking back on some conversations I’ve had/been involved with with people who I now know–or by even the most mediocre powers of deduction can assume–are involved, I feel like a fool. I don’t like being anybody’s fool, and my reaction to that has always been to become instantly pissed off. We’re talking “Houston, we have ignition” kind of instantly pissed off.
But two things have knocked me off the launchpad:
1—The whole Junior High element will blow over in a few days and we’ll be left with RTB, which I still feel benefits–or has the potential to benefit–the romance community. And since I actually like the people involved, it’s not that big a deal in the big picture.
2—I’ve got a four-year-old who has vomited himself dangerously close to dehydration who keeps watching me with his shadowed eyes peeking out from his ashen face, pleading with me to make it go away.
He’s a sad, heartbreaking little reminder of what’s worth my energy. And what’s not.

Oh, yuck. Hope the four-year-old starts feeling better soon! Sending happy thoughts your way!

Thanks, Emma! I’m hoping that, like many little ones, he’ll just wake up feeling better.
And I supposed only the moms in the crowd will appreciate my sniffled tears of relief when the child managed to pee a half hour ago.

Shannon, I’m not a mum, but as someone who was once severely dehydrated and hospitalized for it once, I can appreciate those sniffled tears of relief. Hope the short kid is better after a night’s sleep - and that you get some sleep, too.
As for the RTB thing, I don’t know anyone personally, but I confess to a little bit of ‘erk’ over the denials of involvement rather than honesty or just not saying anything, but as you say, it’s relatively small stuff. And I enjoy reading RTB and will still do so.

you giving him popsicles?
if it’s that bad, take him to the DR! NOW!
they dehydrate very quickly, those little guys.

I hope he’s feeling better soon.
I like RtB, as I’ve said a couple of places elsewhere. Not quite so keen on all this secrets stuff though. Not that I’ve been personally affected.

I, too, hope the excitement over the RTB authorship/ownership issue dies down quickly. As you’ve experienced first hand, there are more important things to worry about.
Hope your little one feels better soon.

{{{Hugs}}} to the four year old!
*smiles happily and pretends that Shannon rotated the blogskin just for her*

((((((hugs)))))) For the short kid.
I’m not a Mum, but I did run round the house screaming “SHE PEEEEEED!” (literally) the first time Pippi Kitty demonstrated her kidneys were still functioning after her accident.
Hope he, and you, feel much better soon.

It was just for you, Steph.
The short kid’s still throwing up, but he’s also still peeing. (And yes, Kate, I promise I’ve talked to my doctor. Several times. There’s nothing they can do unless he gets worse.)
It’s hard for him because he’s a huge liquid guzzler, as a rule—both of them are. It’s rare to see one of them without a water bottle at hand. (I’m so glad our town water is good and I can just reuse the sports-top bottles, because if I had to buy all the water they drink, I’d have to sell the truck) And he’s still trying to get that liquid, so in a bizarre twist, I’m trying to get him to lay off the liquids for a few minutes.
And neither of them like popsicles—they don’t like sticky hands.
Thanks for all the well-wishes for him!

I was just going to pop on and ask you how he was this morning.
I’m glad he’s in better hydration this am. And yay for kids who drink plenty of water!

He’s curled up in his Daddy’s chair, cuddled up with Daddy’s sweater, sleeping right now.
Not surprising considering how many of the wee hours were spent in negotiation. “If you give me some apple juice, I’ll let you go back to bed.” “Yeah, but only until you throw it up, and since we don’t have a 24-hour Walmart Supercenter, you are officially out of bedsheets.”

(((Little guy)))) I hope he gets better quick!!!!! poor tot!

Oh, I hope he’s better today. I’m with you, having a short person around is a real priority fixer.
April 12th, 2005 at 2:25 pm
Oh, poor little man. I can understand the happiness over peeing. Brianna pooped yesterday after a week of nothing and I text messaged Josh right away. LOL. Life is so exciting when you stay at home with kids. Or without them.
I suppose that lack of excitement at home is why so many people get up in arms over things like the RTB. It’s kind of like gossip around the water cooler at work, ya know? I haven’t looked any blogs yet today so I’m not following the whole thing. But I can imagine!

Hope the little one is better now. Sick kids are scary–for a lot of reasons!

He must be feeling better because he wants pizza for supper.
He’s not having it.

My ds is 17, and he’s still my baby.
lol. Glad your baby is feelin better, Shannon:thumb:

:cheer:Glad the short kid is doing better. I can relate to the dehydration after being hospitalised for it in 2 out of 3 pregnancies - poor little guy.:baby:
As for RTB - Go break a plate then forget about it. Personally I think the whole thing is
but I guess that is cos I’m not personally involved. I found RTB through your site, and I’ll keep reading it as I’m sure you will too.
hugs,
