   I ahve greymatter. It’s all I’ve ever used and I like it because it’s pretty darn simple! :)

   Eek! I’ve been looking through the GM forum, and I don’t think it will let me import from WP.

   That might be bad. Still looking.

   I use Greymatter and like it because like Sasha said, it’s simple. But it’s a dinosaur, it seems, and I’ll probably eventually switch to WordPress.

   Shannon I never could get greymatter to work how I wanted then SYlvia suggested Wordpress cause I could import my blogger posts. I don’t think you have to be a guru but you have to be not afraid to mess with the code LOL sometimes no fear isn’t a good thing but I”ve never done irrepairable harm to my blog ;)

   P. P. S. then I’ll get dressed for work. The fastest way I found to beat spam was to go into my webhosting interface (?) and block the IP addresses.

   Actually, the Referrer-Karma seems to have stopped a couple. I think it also stopped a couple of good guys, but I hit the “add to whitelist” button. It’ll take a couple of days of watching it closely, I guess.

   I wandered around the Greymatter support boards and the Expression Engine boards for a while last night (until the blizzard started flashing my lights on and off). I can import my WP posts into MT and then import the MT into EE. But EE’s expensive, and does way more than I need. And GM, like Suzanne said, appears to be a dinosaur.

   Another thing I noticed was that nobody, especially GM, had support boards like WP. So I’ll probably stay. I don’t have a need for EE’s bloatedness, and GM’s apparently a step back.

   I just hate that no matter how carefully I follow the directions, it’s never quite right. Those plug-ins that are supposed to be so easy? Not a single one works for me, darnit.

   Especially WP-Grins. :eyeroll:

   Going TO GM from WP is a reverse step. I just left GM after two years. It’s cgi driven, not php. For example, when I wanted to add something to my sidebar? It took TWENTY MINUTES to rebuild because of how many posts I had accumulated. Emma left, too. Same reason. I still install it on sites that are starting out. But once you have a hefty blog, WP is the way to go, imo.

   Ah. The rebuilding. That’s the thing I love about WP. No republishing and stuff.

   I guess I’m where I need to be. I just need to be more aggressive in figuring out the php schtuff.

    I plan to move to WP from GM eventually. I love GM, but yeah, it takes FOREVER to rebuild files, and now that I’ve used WP at RTB, I love the format. I love how you can schedule posts, too!

    Everyone has pretty much said all that I would say, but the wonder of WP is that the developers are very passionate about it. They work on it 24/7 to improve it and they’re available for assistance on the support forums, which is great. GreyMatter was abandoned by the original developer long ago. A few techie guys took it over and released another version, then they abandoned it too. Now they recommend users to switch to WP saying it does everything they’d want their program to do so why waste time making it? :razz:

    However, I feel your WP pain, as you know.

    I have MT (when Gen set it up for me, she used that insteads of GM b/c GM wouldn’t import my old entires) and I really like MT (it’s VERY EASY) but I’m going to switch to WP because I like the time stamp option and some of the other plug-ins. But MT is very quick when you have to make changes to the sidebar template…

    I just tried a recent-posts display plugin, and it came this close to working. But not totally. Didn’t work right in IE.

    Blech.

    I like the time-stamp, too. That’s how I was able to move Jan’s entries over from Blogger, and if I go away for a week, I can still ramble on while I’m away. :razz:
