Another word from Mary/Eloisa
An interesting editorial in the NYT.
I think on some level the more this poor woman tries to defend herself from detractors, the worse it’s getting. She’s obviously a highly intelligent woman, and she references comments made to her while trying to counter them, and there are a whole lot of words coming from her mouth.
Unfortunately, I think some readers (and I’ve done it) kind of skim what she says and somehow it’s becoming twisted–what she’s saying and what she’s responding to. By the time they read the article, they’ve heard negative things about it and then read their own interpretations into it.
And considering how badly she got screwed with the last interview, I’m surprised she can bring herself to talk to/with the media again.
This one, I think, should be read carefully.

I think the woman’s always going to be controversial. Too many big words. *ggg*
But I felt last time as if I’d condemned her a little too quickly. I still think she’s waaaaaay too apologetic, but I’d sure like to be able to read all the interview that was cut out last time.
And I suppose I wish she’d stop having to compare what she rights to the classics and other ‘important’ literature in order to justify it, but…

Coming out of lurkdom to say that I am with you on this. I wish she would stop the comparing and she does sound too apologetic.
Also, and this is very nitpicking, but the hero in the Flame and Flower didn’t pass out, and actually impregnanted the heroine. It was in the Wolf and the Dove where the hero passed out before finishing.
Basically, what this means is that I need to get life! :)

I agree. EJ might take a leaf out of PBW’s book and just not give a f***. gg.
Btw, I was just cruising by, thought I’d check out what you were up to, and WHOA! Great site, I saw the earlier incarnation–that had the blurb about ’serving up HEAs’–and pretty sure I complimented you then, but if I didn’t , Awesome, job!

Hi Sandy! I’m glad you popped out of lurkdom! :)
I have to confess to loving those old massive historicals with the overbearing alpha hero. I cut my teeth on them (when I was too young to be reading them) and sometimes I wish they weren’t so scorned today. I found the whole idea of being thrown over a gorgeous man’s shoulder and absconded with very thrilling. (I also miss the ‘bodice ripper’ covers, too, so maybe I’m just an insult to modern women. *ggg*)
And thanks, Jaq! You’ll probably see a few incarnations in the next week or so while I figure out what I’m doing.
